What year did you graduate from UT Health San Antonio?

2012

What degree do you have?

Doctor of Medicine

What is your specialty?

Gastroenterology

What is favorite memory at UT Health San Antonio?

My favorite memories consist of all the many different “firsts” that I had throughout medical school and training. All of these memories were a 50/50 mix of excitement with a healthy dose of anxiety!

Some of the highlights included: meeting my classmates for the first time, the first few lectures in the lecture halls, meeting our tank mates for anatomy for the first time, the first dissection, the first few patient encounters at the hospital, learning procedures from central lines to colonoscopies for the first time.

Lastly, I was blessed to celebrate numerous milestones from the white coat ceremony to graduating fellowship at UT Health San Antonio. Having my family at the Holly Auditorium to celebrate those events are some of my most favorite memories.

What is a piece of medical advice you wish everyone would follow?

Don’t underestimate the importance of preventative health!

Keep up to date with yearly checkups and age appropriate screening examinations.

What is a common misconception about your specialty that you would like to debunk?

Colonoscopies aren’t painful or uncomfortable since we administer anesthesia.

What is your current occupation and where?

I am currently a gastroenterologist at Gastroenterology Consultants of Laredo in Laredo, Texas.
